- Your treating physician or ophthalmologist (eye doctor) will likely not have heard of this test — or even CTX. Therefore, you may need to encourage him or her to learn more about CTX and the genetic panel. Refer your doctor to AboutCTXHCP.com to get test information and order the test kit.
- Download the CTX educational brochure and share with your doctor.
- If the test comes back positive for CTX, your doctor will likely refer you to a neurologist or a metabolic geneticist for CTX management.
If your doctor has you perform your genetic test at home, rather than in the office, you can learn how to perform your at-home test by following a few easy steps.
- Once you have received your genetic test kit, you will need to collect your sample and send it to PreventionGenetics.
- Instructions for completing the test and where to send the sample can be found in your test kit.
See below for how to collect a sample for testing. If you’d like detailed printed instructions with illustrations, you can download this saliva collection flyer.
